The Salvage Bar is now set to open doors on a new restaurant and function room above the bar known as the Monkstone Restaurant, which it doubled from 60 to 120 covers. The refurbishment was done using salvaged materials, with the bar’s owners benefiting from a £100,000 loan for the project through the government-backed Funding for Lending scheme.

 

Owner Jacqui Cavill said: "It all revolves around the name Salvage Bar – everything we put in was from salvaged material. The bar is made from recycled railway sleepers, old kitchen equipment and recycled oak flooring. The ornate lights are from reclamation yards or antique dealers, and we have features such as 13ft tall church organ pipes reclaimed from a church in Swansea.

 

"The food is brought out to the sound of the old school bell with some dishes served on slates which were not used in the refurbishment, and towered burgers served on the off-cuts of storm-damaged trees which we used to clad the walls behind the salvaged bar."
