Over 300 jobs in danger as turbine tower maker plans to streamline operations
Around 330 jobs could be at risk as a Chepstow-based steelwork fabrication and turbine tower maker revealed plans to close its infrastructure division and prepare its renewable power operation for sale, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.
A consultation period has started with 150 employees at the Mabey Bridge infrastructure division’s manufacturing plant on Station Road in Chepstow, which is dedicated to heavy steelwork fabrication and protective treatment.
The company hopes that a buyer would be found to provide the necessary investment for its renewable operation, also in Chepstow, where 180 employees work. The Newhouse plant opened in 2011 on the back of a £38m capital outlay and has been specifically designed for the manufacture of wind turbine towers and other tubular products.
In a statement, Newby Bridge said: "We have not made these decisions lightly and we understand that this is a very difficult time for our people. Their welfare is an important concern for us and we will provide them with as much support as possible over the coming weeks."
