New Cardiff housing scheme gets the green light
Plans to build a new 671-bed, 200,000 sq ft student housing scheme in Cardiff have received planning permission, a recent news report in the local business media can reveal.
The scheme includes a 4-5 storey southern block and a 4-7 storey northern block with a total of 214,266 sq ft of student accommodation and 5,629 sq ft of retail space. The new development will be located on the site currently occupied by the University of Wales’ Howard Gardens Campus in Adamsdown, formerly home to the School of Art and Design.
Alan Pearce, head of planning at Alder King, said: "It will appropriately redevelop previously developed land in a sustainable location and greatly improve the appearance of the existing site.
"Cardiff requires a significant amount of purpose-built student accommodation to enhance the offer to students and release some pressure from private housing in multiple occupation."
