Exhaust systems maker to create 224 new jobs with backing from Welsh Government

A vehicle exhaust systems maker plans to open a new production facility and create a further 224 jobs after managing to win business finance backing from the Welsh Government.

Tenneco-Walker needs to expand its activity after winning contracts for new and replacement exhaust systems from a variety of high-profile customers, including General Motors, Renault, Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover, a news report in the local business media has revealed.

Currently, the exhaust systems’ manufacturer has 190 workers in Tredegar but plans to open a second production and warehouse combined facility at High Point in Dowlais. This development is expected to create 224 jobs and safeguard a further 36 roles.

Economy minister Edwina Hart said: "This is an extremely important investment for Wales and for Merthyr specifically. It will provide a substantial boost to the local economy, creating more than 220 new skilled jobs in one of our priority economic sectors, offering a range of employment opportunities for local people.
