EADS launches new training company in Newport, creates new jobs

EADS has revealed plans to set up a new training company at its Newport base, that will specialise in non-destructive testing (NDT) and training in aerospace and is expected to be training up to 1,400 students a year within six years.

According to a news report on this matter from the local media, the new company, called Testia, will also provide apprenticeships in partnership with Caparo, and is expected to provide 60 new jobs after five years. This will include trainers, inspectors and high level engineers available as consultants.

Denis Gardin, head of EADS new technology ventures and president of TESTIA, said: "By opening a Testia company in the UK we are addressing a potentially serious problem in the global aerospace industry by replacing an ageing population of engineers with young, highly skilled persons who will progress to fill those expert roles in the future. Aerospace NDT is the area with the most significant growth rate in the last ten years and clearly defined future growth."

Brian Hall, chief executive of Testia, added: "From Newport we will cover the all the UK divisions of Airbus, Astrium and Eurocopter plus, of course, a very large aerospace supplier and operator community. From a state-of-the-art NDT training and research facility the complete range of services will be available to all EADS personnel, plus those companies which manufacture and support components into the aerospace industry and those who operate the products worldwide."
