Dairy business to cut 70 jobs as part of turnaround plan

A dairy business that operates the Haverfordwest Creamery has revealed plans to cut 70 jobs as part of some ambitious restructuring plans, a recents news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.

First Milk, which produces Pembrokeshire Cheddar at the Haverfordwest Creamery, said a proposal to remove up to 70 roles was communicated to employees on 1 May 2015. The company added that while a small number of roles were affected at its manufacturing sites, the proposed reduction represents up to 50 per cent of the positions within its head office and support teams.

There will now be a period of consultation with affected workers.

The turnaround plan has been developed by First Milk’s new chief executive Mike Gallacher, who was appointed a month ago, alongside the board and executive teams.

First Milk also said that as part of its new approach to milk pricing, a group of ‘milk fields’ have been identified to service outlets more effectively.
