Construction work to start on a £2.5m affordable housing scheme near Merthyr Tydfil

Construction work is set to start in the near future on a £2.5m development of affordable housing in Aberfan, near Merthyr Tydfil, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

Work on the 23 new homes, on Walters Terrace, will be carried out by regeneration specialist Keepmoat for Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association, and is set to be completed by September 2017.

The £2.5m development will comprise a mixture of two- and three-bedroom houses and one and two bedroom flats, all for affordable rent.

The development is also expected to support the creation of six new apprenticeships along with a number of work experience opportunities.

Edward Rees, regional director at Keepmoat, said: "We are proud to be working with our partners on this exciting project. It will provide a significant boost for the area, both by helping to meet local housing needs and through the creation of employment and training opportunities. We are delighted to be playing such an important role in transforming the local area."

Karen Courts, chief executive at Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association, added: "The scheme will provide 23 units of affordable housing for rent. We are committed to the regeneration of communities and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Keepmoat on this exciting development."
