Cardiff law firm plans to move into the Capital Quarter

Geldards, a law firm, intends to move from its current headquarters to new premises in Cardiff’s Capital Quarter.

The new offices at number 4, Capital Quarter, are 30,000 square feet in size, and Geldards will take a ten-year lease there. The site is still in progress, and should be finished in 2019. Geldards will then start furnishing and otherwise outfitting the premises in early 2020, and they are aiming to move in in the summer of 2020.

Several clients of Geldards also work in the large mixed-use development called Capital Quarter, and Geldards will be moving in alongside many well-known companies such as Admiral, Which?, Network Rail and the Home Office

Geldards current legal and support teams will all move to the new premises, including the firm’s corporate, commercial, real estate, charity and private client law teams.

Jeff Pearson, chief executive of Geldards, said: "We are very excited to be relocating our Cardiff office to Capital Quarter. As our head office, this significant investment will ensure we remain at the centre of the thriving business community in the Welsh capital.

"The new premises are designed to deliver the high quality environment that clients expect from Cardiff’s leading and most established law firm as well as providing the right infrastructure and environment to deliver an effective service from a specialist and highly qualified workforce.”

Moving into a new building is the perfect time to assess your current payroll system, specifically the way that you record employee attendance and their hours worked.

Many companies, even in today’s high-tech world, still use weekly paper timesheets to record employee working hours. These have more downsides than they have advantages.

For example, they are very easy for an unscrupulous employee to fake. If there is no way of monitoring employees’ attendance apart from their own self-reporting, then they can easily put in overtime or prime time shifts that they didn’t actually do.

Even an honest employee could forget exact details and fudge an entry. Inaccurate working hours could put you at risk of breaching the European Working Time Regulations, or of incorrect payslips.

Another example is the incredible amount of processing time that timesheets can cost payroll staff. They need to transfer often illegible handwriting individually onto Excel spreadsheets in order to convert it into data they can deal with for payroll. One typo could completely change the records.

If a company cannot change any of the writing in their offices, due to the conditions of their lease, then we would be happy to offer our Self Service Module. This is a browser-based clocking in and out software, and it is also available via a mobile app for remote workers.
