48 new jobs created as oil and gas consultancy upgrades Llandudno operation

An oil and gas consultancy has created 48 new roles and safeguarded 242 roles as part of a deal to upgrade its existing base in Llandudno and secure its presence in North Wales.

Oil and gas consultancy Robertson will a £1m support package from the Welsh Government and will use the funding in order to relocate its laboratory facilities from outdated buildings to Conwy Morfa Estate by the end of 2014, a news report in the local business media could reveal.

Robertson was bought by French geoscience company CGG last year and its new owner had been considering moving the business away from Llandudno. In order to prevent that and keep the company (and its jobs) in Wales, the Welsh Government agreed to acquire the company’s existing site and lease it back to the company. The Welsh Government is also working with Robertson to progress options for the redevelopment of the rest of the site.

Chris Burgess, managing director of Robertson, said: "These outdated facilities do not meet the standards expected by CGG which is proud of providing a modern working environment for its staff. It was felt new facilities were needed to fully exploit the synergies between Robertson services and existing CGG businesses.

"The new specialist laboratories are a first step in that direction and we anticipate moving by the end of the year."
