Care home extends for dementia quality

A nursing and residential care home in Bangor has opened a dementia wing at its Oakmont Lodge site.

The new wing brings a significant increase in beds, with 24 additions bringing the total to 80. A large garden has also been created for the residents with dementia.

The £2m investment has created 30 roles.

Ryan Smith, chief executive of Dunluce Healthcare, said: “When we began planning our new dementia wing, we looked at current best practice, and to the future, in order to develop a centre of excellence.

“The feedback from interested families and our nursing and auxiliary teams has been fantastic and we believe we have created a centre offering the highest quality of care in an environment that all residents can regard as their home.”

Annette Martin, residential manager at Oakmont Lodge, added: “Choosing the right care home is one of the most important decisions you can make for yourself or for your loved one.

“While staying at Oakmont Lodge, we place you and your family at the heart of everything that we do. We understand that the requirements of our residents are unique, and we focus on identifying their individual needs, and then ensuring they have the right nursing and care teams.”

A nursing home can be a very busy building. Staffed 24/7 by care staff, security staff and nurses, there are always comings and goings. As a result, it can be difficult for manager to keep track of exactly who is in the building. This could be not only a security risk, and a risk to the safety of the vulnerable residents, but also dangerous for visitors who could be forgotten about in stressful situations such as a triggered fire alarm.

To solve this problem, you need a system which can automatically tell you where everybody is. We have a number of solutions to help you:

Our time and attendance system records everyone’s entrance and exit from controlled doors, using secure biometric measurements such as fingerprints or facial recognition.

Our Visitor Management System allows visitors to not only check-in securely at reception, but to have their movements monitored through controlled doors. This ensures that they cannot access any unsafe areas, and that their presence is reliably recorded on the system.

When our time and attendance clocking terminals are linked into your company’s fire alarm system, any fire alarm activation will result in the printing of a fast, automated list of who is currently clocked into the building. This can then be used as a roll-call list.

We also have the Self Service Module, which can be accessed from a browser or from your mobile via the app (available on Android and iOS). This enables employees to sign in and out and request holiday. If the clocking in/out is done from a mobile, GPS position data is to the central Tensor.NET system, so that you can make sure remote employees such as community carers are where they should be at that time.
