Plans for 300 new homes on former quarry site set for approval
Plans to build up to 300 new houses on the site of a former quarry in Swansea, which is currently used for landfill, are set to be given the green light by councillors, a local news report has revealed.
Edenstone Homes and SI Green UK are behind the scheme to redevelop the Cwmrhydyceirw Quarry, currently used as a landfill site, and adjoining land for residential use.
Under the Parc Ceirw proposals, the existing site buildings would be demolished to enable the quarry to be turned into an area of public space. Up to 300 houses could be built on the rest of the land.
The plans are recommended for approval by a report prepared for a meeting of Swansea Council’s planning committee tomorrow (10 May 2016).
The report said: "The development of this former landfill site for housing presents a number of challenges for the developer, however, based on the information provided it is considered the site can be developed for housing and open space without raising any significant environmental health or safety issues, subject to the conditions and Section 106 planning obligations required by this permission and subject to the successful closure of the landfill.
"The development has the potential to result in benefits to the local community in terms of the permanent cessation of the landfilling operations and the development of the quarry basin as an area of open space and play area, which is currently lacking in this part of Morriston."
