Staff made redundant as signage manufacturer goes into administration

An Ebbw Vale-based signage manufacturer was forced to lay off its 38 members of staff as it entered administration, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

Monwel Ltd was set up as a social enterprise in 2013 to provide employment for disabled people. However, high employment costs, reduced sales and a deficit in the region of £400,000 pushed the company into financial difficulty. It ceased trading on 30 July 2015 and formally entered liquidation on 20 August 2015.

Debts are owed to a variety of organisations and individuals, including trade creditors, employees, HM Revenue & Customs and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. Assets belonging to the business will now go up for sale with a view to providing a return to creditors.

Firms of any size that face the prospect of cutting their staff numbers (or making them redundant) should also consider a serious optimization of its business processes, and this is exactly where Time & Attendance – Wales can help, since our company offers a very comprehensive set of products aimed at minimizing all of the HR-related costs.

Our advanced hardware and software solutions allow customers to easily remove staff from the database, but also to restrict access rights for the members of an organization to a specific location, when one of our Access Control systems has also been installed on the premises.
